Hey everyone, it’s Katie! If you’ve been following along with our Caturday Chronicles, you know that my heart has a very special, very permanent place for the rescues that find their way into our lives. There is something sacred about the bond we share with our feline friends. They aren't just pets; they are the keepers of our secrets, the quiet presence in our lonely hours, and the vibrant sparks of joy that make a house feel like a home.
Today, I want to take a slow, deliberate walk down memory lane. I will introduce you to a trio that truly stole our hearts. These stories aren't just about cats; they are about resilience, second chances, and the profound lessons of love they teach us. Whether they are still here demanding treats or watching over us from across the Rainbow Bridge, their legacies are woven into the very fabric of everything we do here at Abood Elegant Journeys.
Praylean: The Miracle with Three Legs
Our journey with Praylean began in a place many of us know well: a Petco. But this wasn't a quick trip for litter or toys. My roommate and I walked in, and there, staring out the window with the most soulful, saddest face I have ever seen, was a little tabby. She was missing a leg, and it was nearing Thanksgiving.
She was a rescue from the Animal Hope Alliance, and the story we heard broke our hearts. Her mother and all her siblings had already been adopted. Because she was a "special needs" kitty with only three legs, everyone had passed her by. She was the one left behind, sitting in that window while the world bustled past.
My roommate made a promise right then and there: "If she is still there the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, she’s coming home with us." Sure enough, that Wednesday evening, Praylean became a part of our family.
Praylean was a revelation. If you think having three legs slowed her down, you couldn't be more wrong. She was faster than any of the four-legged cats in the house! She navigated life with a vibrant, rugged determination that inspired us every single day. She didn't see herself as "less than"; she was simply Praylean, a whirlwind of tabby fur and pure spirit.
Sadly, Praylean passed away in 2023 due to a bacterial urinary tract infection. Missing her doesn't even begin to cover it. But there was a moment, right at the end, that I carry with me like a precious treasure. I was holding her when she left this world, and as she looked at me, the expression on her face was so clear, so tender. It said, “Thank you for giving me a good life.”
It’s moments like those that remind me why I am so passionate about the art behind each piece of jewelry I create. When we lose a soul as bright as Praylean’s, we look for ways to keep that light close to us.
Chloe: The Vocal Queen of Softness
Then there was Chloe. Chloe is another one of those "meant-to-be" connections. She had been brought back to the Animal Hope Alliance because she had scratched a child. She simply didn't tolerate the high energy and unpredictable nature of children. Honestly, who can blame her for needing a peaceful sanctuary?
When my roommate saw her, it was love at first sight. Chloe looks like a long-haired Russian Blue, with a coat that is quite literally the softest thing I have ever felt in my life. Touching her fur is like touching a cloud; it’s glossy, thick, and incredibly soothing.
Chloe is very much alive and thriving. She is the undisputed queen of the household. She is extremely vocal: she doesn’t just meow; she talks. She has an opinion on everything, from the weather to the timing of her dinner. Speaking of food, she is a total addict for her Temptations treats. She begs for them every single day with such persistence that, of course, she gets them.
She reminds me so much of the characters we meet in our Caturday Chronicles: The Royal Rescue of Benny the Maine Coon. She has that same regal air, a sense of knowing exactly who she is and what she deserves.
Little Guy: The Bread-Stealing Gentleman
Our third musketeer is Little Guy. When we first met him at Animal Hope Alliance, they had named him something like “Bob.” Now, no offense to the Bobs of the world, but it just didn't fit this character. He is a classic Tuxedo cat, complete with a perfect little milk mustache that makes him look like he’s permanently dressed for a gala.
Little Guy is a sensitive soul. When my roommate moved across the street into another townhouse, the transition was hard on him. He cried and hid in the upstairs bathroom for about three weeks before he finally felt brave enough to venture out and explore his new kingdom. He still hides if there’s a loud noise: he’s a gentle, cautious boy.
But don’t let his shy nature fool you; he has some hilarious quirks. His most famous trait? Stealing Outback steakhouse rolls! If my roommate brings them home, Little Guy is on the hunt. He doesn't even eat the whole thing; he just takes one single, defiant bite out of each roll.
He is the ultimate "chill" cat. Any of the other cats can give him a little smack, and he just blows it off. He doesn't run, he doesn't fight back; he just calmly walks away, maintaining his dignity. He’s a peaceful presence in a sometimes chaotic world.
Preserving the Stories We Love
Writing about Praylean, Chloe, and Little Guy makes me reflect on why I do what I do at Abood Elegant Journeys. Each of these cats has a story that deserves to be honored. Whether it's the rugged resilience of a three-legged tabby or the soft, silent comfort of a Tuxedo cat, these moments define our lives.
When I create custom resin art, I often think about pet parents who want to hold onto these memories forever. For those who have lost a companion like Praylean, pet memorial jewelry—perhaps incorporating a lock of hair or even just a design inspired by their unique colors—becomes a warm hug you can wear. It’s a way to ensure that the "thank you" they gave us stays close to our hearts.
For the cats still with us, like Chloe and Little Guy, I find inspiration in their colors and personalities. The shimmering gray of Chloe’s coat or the crisp black and white of Little Guy’s tuxedo find their way into my designs, like our cosmic-cat-resin-earrings. Each piece is a celebration of the feline spirit.
A Heartfelt Journey
Our homes are filled with more than just furniture; they are filled with the echoes of purrs and the soft padding of paws. Whether you are looking for thoughtful gifts for her or a way to commemorate your own "trio that stole your heart," I invite you to explore the world of handmade keepsakes.
There is a true value in handmade jewelry that mass-produced items simply can't match. It’s the energy, the intention, and the love poured into every swirl of resin and every placed petal. Just as every rescue cat has a unique soul, every piece we create is one-of-a-kind.
Thank you for letting me share the stories of Praylean, Chloe, and Little Guy with you today. They are my inspiration, my joy, and the reason I believe so deeply in preserving the beauty of our journeys.
I hope your weekend is filled with slow moments, gentle purrs, and maybe a few "Temptations" of your own.
With love and gratitude,
Katie
