There's something magical about a black cat. Their shining eyes, beautiful dark coats, and unmistakable personalities have inspired stories for centuries. But behind the Halloween legends are real cats who deserve love, not superstition.

Why Are Black Cats Associated with Halloween?

In parts of European history, black cats became associated with witchcraft and supernatural folklore. Over time, their silhouettes became familiar Halloween symbols. These stories reflect old beliefs—not the nature of real cats.

Are Black Cats Bad Luck?

Not at all. Traditions vary widely: some cultures have viewed black cats as lucky or signs of prosperity. Fur color cannot determine a cat's personality or the fortune of anyone who meets one.

Meet BK: Our Very Own Black Cat

At Abood Elegant Journeys, black cats aren't spooky decorations. They're family. Our beloved BK was born with one eye that never had vision. Recently, that eye had to be surgically removed. We're happy to report that he seems to be doing well, and he's scheduled to have his stitches removed Monday.

BK's experience reminds us that beauty isn't about physical perfection. He is still the same special cat we love, with a personality entirely his own. A photo of BK from our family collection will be added here.

The Truth About Black Cats

Black cats can be affectionate, mischievous, playful, independent, or all of those things—just like cats of every color. Halloween is a chance to celebrate them and encourage kindness toward animals rather than repeat old superstitions.
